The largest encampment in Antarctica, McMurdo Station a.k.a “Mac Town,” is home to 1,200 multi-national scientists during peak season. It’s 2,400 miles south of Christchurch, New Zealand and the surrounding landscape is so uninhabitable, residents are not permitted to leave the base.
