11. The Grand Budapest Hotel – The Grand Budapest Hotel
It’s not every day that a giant, Art Nouveau department store goes out of business, leaving its red carpets, grand wooden staircases, and gilt chandeliers intact. That’s exactly what happened when the Gorlitzer Warenhaus went out of business.
All of the shelving units and tables were removed, which just left the bones of the store for production designers to build upon. The Gorlitzer Warenhaus fits in perfectly with Wes Anderson’s perfectly indulgent but symmetrical vision.
