The fictional Camp Firewood from Wet Hot American Summer was based on, and filmed at a real camp called Camp Towanda. Originally, the camp directors were told that the movie would be a family friendly feature, and when they saw the filthy final product, they were furious. Camp Towanda is located in Pennsylvania, and since it’s so remote, the cast slept there during filming.
