Isamu Noguchi’s House – Mure, Japan
Sculptor Isamu Noguchi made his home on the small island of Shikoku in Japan’s Inland Sea. The house that he originally bought was a 200-year-old samurai’s dwelling, and he set about making changes so he could both live and work there.
He made a workshop, and a space to exhibit his finished work, then divided his time between his houses in Japan and the United States for the rest of his life. After he died in 1988, the property remained intact as the Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum, and it is still open for visitors.
