The World’s Most Beautiful Private Homes

Miramare – Trieste, Italy

This luxurious private residence was designed and built by Emperor Maximilian of Mexico, who became obsessed with this house, but unfortunately didn’t live long enough to see it completed. The house was built in a neo-Gothic and Renaissance Revival style, and the interior was designed by Maximilian himself.

Maximilian filled his future home with travel souvenirs and his entire collection of rare books, as well as a selection of paintings that illustrated the region’s history. Now, the castle is open year-round to the public for visitors.
