17 Scariest American Urban Legends

4. The Clown Statue

The Clown Statue tale goes like this: It starts with a girl babysitting in Newport Beach, California. The family she’s working for is rich and live in a very big house.

The father had told the girl that when the children are in bed, she could watch TV in the living room. So sure enough, the kids go to bed and as she sits down to watch TV, she notices a scary clown statue in the corner of the room. She calls the father and asks if she could watch TV in another room, because the clown is scaring her.

The father responds by telling her to get the kids, go next door and call 911. So she does exactly that, and calls the father again, who tells her that they don’t have a clown statue! Police arrest a man (who in some versions of the legend is a little person) who had posed as a clown and gotten into the house.
