8. Jazz Funerals
In New Orleans, many of major event are marked with jazz music, so it makes sense that funerals would also share that colorful history. Large brass bands are hired in New Orleans by the families or funeral directors to play somber or traditionally religious music, like hymns and dirges, on the way to the church. On the way back from the church or cemetery, the band will usually change their tune and play more upbeat music to try and encourage the mourners to dance their sorrow away.
