5. Memorial Reefs
If your loved one was a nature lover or avid surfer in life, what better way to honor their legacy than to use their remains to rebuild endangered coral reefs? These new reefs are known as eternal or memorial reefs, and can be found all over the coastal United States, as well as along islands in the South Pacific. The way it works is the ash of the deceased is used to make a special concrete ball, which is placed on the reef to encourage the development of new coral.
