The Everlasting Storm
If you’re the type of person who loves thunderstorms, you need to visit the site of the so-called “Everlasting Storm” in Puerto Concha, Venezuela. For 260 nights out of the year, an incredible contained lightning storm flashes across the sky for 10 hours at a time, never moving from its place. This is thought to be caused by a number of factors including the nearby V-shaped mountains that trap the warm Caribbean winds, the cold air coming off the Andes Mountains, evaporating water, and methane gas. Sailors called it the “Beacon of Maracaibo” and have used it as a nautical guide for centuries.
