Mammatus clouds
Yes, that’s mamma as in mammary. These breast-like cloud formations are comprised mostly of ice and are generally seen as ominous because they usually appear before or after a storm. Unlike most clouds, which are formed by rising air, mammatus clouds are produced by sinking air and can stretch for hundreds of miles of sky, but for only a few minutes at a time. If you’re lucky enough to ever witness them, try not to giggle like a 12-year-old even though they look like giant, heavenly udders.
