Appalachian African-American Cultural Center
Location: Far Southwestern Virginia
This cultural center aims to preserve the stories, heritage, history, and culture of African Americans in this part of the country. You can make an appointment to see an oral history presentation, or learn about the region at one of the sponsored workshops on racism. Housed in what was once the only primary school for blacks in Pennington Gap, the African-American Cultural Center is a great place to learn about history and discuss modern race relations.
