Aldie Mill Historic Park
Location: Northern Virginia
A huge four-story brick structure, the Aldie Mill was completed in 1809 and turned into a park in 2006. Once upon a time, the mill’s five run of French flint burrstones transformed wheat to flour, which would then be exported around the region. Famously, during the Civil War the wiley Confederate raider John Singleton Mosby captured several Union soldiers in this area. Today, it’s one of the best historic mills in Virginia, and the only one powered by twin overshot wheels.
