The National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial
Location: Northern Virginia
The National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial is a solemn place to visit a piece of America’s more recent history. Each of the 184 victims is remembered with a bench engraved with their name. The benches are ordered by age, from Dana Falkenberg (3) to Jon Yamnick St. (72). If you face the Pentagon, you will be able to read the names of people who died inside the building. If you face the opposite direction, you can follow the victims from the plane along the route it took before it crashed. Under each bench is a shallow lighted pool of water, which makes for a haunting image at night. Soak in the quiet and sit here for a bit.
