14. Basilica of San Clemente al Laterano, Rome
The Basilica of San Clemente al Laterano contains three separate buildings that have been built over each other. In the lower levels of the current basilica, there are remains of a republican era building. In the 4th century, the “first basilica” was built over the republican era building. The current basilica was built on top of that one just before the year 1100.
