5. St. Mark’s Basilica, Venice
Located only steps away from the Bridge of Sighs is St. Mark’s Basilica, another spectacular piece of Italian architecture. The first church on the site was consecrated in 832 AD, and ever since then the building has been evolving.
Undoubtedly the most famous aspect of the basilica are the giant Horses of St. Mark, treasures of antiquity that were plundered during the Sack of Constantinople in 1204. Currently undergoing restoration, the basilica will soon be restored to its former glory.
