4. Open-faced sandwiches
If you aren’t feeling up to building your own sandwich, many Swedish restaurants serve excellent open-faced sandwiches, called smörgås, built on either rye or crispbread, and topped with a veritable mountain of toppings. Typical variations include pate, smoked salmon, cheese, hard boiled eggs, or fish. These smörgås are often dressed simply with butter, or a mayonnaise-based spread, and veggies for garnish. Shrimp remains the most popular type of smörgås. You can find a popular version bursting with fresh fish to enjoy at Melanders Fisk.
