Iceland: The Land of the Midnight Sun

6. Svartifoss
Although Iceland is covered in amazing waterfalls, one of the most incredible has to be Svartifoss, a unique waterfall that cascades down a drop framed by hundreds of geometric pillars. Located in the Vatnajökull National Park, the unique rock face surrounding the waterfall was formed by lava. These columns have provided inspiration for many different buildings throughout Iceland. Their angular height and dark surface are popular with architects who seek to capture the dramatic beauty of the Icelandic countryside. One thing to note before visiting — swimming is not recommended, as the hexagonal rocks easily chip away and leave sharp fragments at the bottom of the falls.
