McMurdo Station is an Antarctic research center operated by the United States. It’s located on the southern tip of Ross Island, on McMurdo Sound. To access McMurdo Station, visitors can come in on ATVs from the harbor, or they can choose to fly in.

The three airfields at McMurdo Station are all made of snow and ice, and are kept in pristine condition to ensure that massive supply and personnel aircraft can land at all times. When the Ice Runway breaks up in the spring, aircraft are redirected to the two other airfields, Pegasus Field or Williams Field.
