The Most Unique Airports in the World

9. Gibraltar International Airport
Gibraltar International Airport has one runway that’s shared by both the civilian airlines as well as the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defense. It might seem like an airport like that needs more than one runway, but unfortunately on the tiny island of Gibraltar, that’s impossible.
The runway crosses Gibraltar’s main road, which means that automobile traffic has to be halted every time a plane takes off or lands. Luckily, their communication system is excellent and there’s been no safety issues so far. It’s just a bit disconcerting to look out the window from your tiny airline seat and see cars whizzing by!
