8. Wellington International Airport
The small airport in the city of Wellington is a delightful treat for people that have travelled all the way across the world to New Zealand. In 2003, as a way to promote the New Zealand-filmed movie The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, airport officials put up a gigantic statue of Gollum in the lobby, which drew tons of tourists.
Although the airport is small, it has been continually improved. Their latest effort at revitalizing the airport was a large new international gate waiting area nicknamed “The Rock” because of the unique modern design.
