Although most people imagine Kansas as the picture-perfect home of Dorothy (before she was carried off to Oz), the truth is that Dorothy may not have been altogether safe there. In 2013, more than 1,260 violent crimes occurred in Kansas City, which is three times the national average.
Luckily, it looks like lately that trend is changing, and the city is gradually becoming a safer place to live. There are still counties within the city like Jackson and Wyandotte County that remain dangerous — best stick to other areas of the city.
