Newark is improving, but it has a way to go. In 2014, the mayor of Newark convened a panel to discuss violent crime in his city, and solicited the opinion of a variety of experts to see how to best deal with the ongoing problem.
Although many people think of organized crime and gang activity when they think of Newark, the city is working hard to dispel that image. Even though there are still places where violent crime is rampant, throughout the city as whole the numbers are improving with every passing year.
