Sometimes it’s not so much that a community isn’t educating their youth but rather that they’re having a hard time keeping them at home. Hickory, NC has a reasonable high school graduation rate of 84.1%; however, only 31% of their adult residents have attended college.
One local blogger maintains that Hickory doesn’t have an education problem but rather that it needs to ‘think younger’ in order to encourage college grads to return to the area.
