Tea was first prepared in southeastern China and has remained a huge part of everyday life ever since. At first, tea was given as medicine, but eventually people began drinking it recreationally. Now, most people in China drink tea every day- many use the same leaves over and over again, which brings out a different taste with each successive brewing. Tea has played a huge factor in Chinese history, influencing everything from culinary traditions to architecture. There are tons of varieties of tea produced in China ranging from young, light white tea to a fermented type of black tea leaves known as pu’er. China is also responsible for producing 79 percent of the world’s green tea.
