Barii-san is the sweet ambassador for the Imbari City, Ehime prefecture, helping as a guide for the town.

As a chicken, he represents the food specialty of the city and dons a haramaki cotton towel wrap, which happens to symbolize the fact that Imbari City is the largest towel producer in the country. The jewel crown atop his head invites visitors to see the Kurushima-Kaikyō Bridge within area and his boat-shaped wallet pays homage to Japan’s largest ship builder, the city’s very own Imbari Shipbuilding.
