10. The Great Huon Pine
Another clonal tree, this stand of Huon Pine located in Tasmania is at least 10,000 years old. Remarkably, it was only discovered in 1995, by a forestry worker who was new to the area. Although the individual trees themselves are all only around 1,000 to 2,000 years old, scientists believe that at least one Huon Pine has been on the site for at least 10,500 years. Visitors to the site can see for themselves the tangle of roots that has been the driving force behind the tree’s steady march across the jungle landscape.
