6. Gran Abuelo
Located in the Alerce Costero National Park in Chile, this huge tree known as Gran Abuelo (Great-Grandfather) has come to be known not only across the country but also around the world. Gran Abuelo is estimated to be at least 3,645 years old, and is a type of Patagonian Cypress, which are known to live for extremely long periods of time. Unfortunately, since there was such heavy logging in this area in both the 19th and 20th centuries, Gran Abuelo is one of the only ancient trees of this type left in Chile.
