Go for Gold: Abandoned Olympic Venues
| January 8, 2018
Trampolino Olimpico – Italy
The Trampolino Olimpico played host to all of the ski jumping events at the 1956 Winter Olympics in Italy. It was widely recognized as the most advanced modern ski jumping installation of the era. When in use, the venue could hold a maximum of 40,000 spectators.
But as these photos clearly show, the Trampolino Olimpico’s days of hosting international ski jump competitions are long past. The venue was shut down in 1990 and has been demoted to “mountain feature” ever since. It sure is a beautiful, though. You know, in a post-apocalyptic, abandoned warehouse sort of way.
