Stonehenge – England
If you haven’t heard of the famous pile of rocks known as Stonehenge, then you must be living under a rock. Found in Wiltshire, England, this prehistoric circle of stones was built between 3000 and 2000 BC. Experts believe it to be a burial ground, although legends of it being a prehistoric calendar or a site for human sacrifice still persist.
Its true marvel is not why, but how it was built. Archaeologists believe that the ancient Brits used rollers, sledges, and rafts to move the giant rocks – some of which weigh up to 50 tonnes – across land and water to form the impressive stone circle. It’s estimated that it took more than 30 million manhours to complete all three phases of Stonehenge.
