Sechin Bajo – Peru
Located Northwest of Lima, this ancient settlement is thought to date back to 3500 BC and was likely the capital of a culture that predates the Incas. Sechin Bajo consists of a series of raised platforms, mounds, and sunken courts which were likely used for ceremonial gatherings.
In 2000, archaeologists discovered a circular plaza that dates the site back even further, making Sechin Bajo the oldest man-made structure in the Americas. At the same time, experts also uncovered an adobe mural that is thought to depict a human sacrifice, making the mystery behind these ruins even more fascinating.
