Travel Destinations to Avoid in 2018

Venice, Italy

Venice has long been known as La Serenissima or “the most serene,” but there’s nothing serene about having 20 million extra people stomping through its streets on an annual basis. This northeastern Italian city has long attracted visitors with its gondolas, delicious food, and rich cultural history; however, Venetians are so tired of tourists that more than 2000 of them took to the streets to protest in the summer of 2016. Locals claim that the overcrowding due to tourism is driving Venetians out of the city, taxing their infrastructure, and creating a rental shortage due to the influx of short vacation rentals.

If you still plan on visiting Venice, be warned that not everyone will welcome you with open arms.
