11. Tamale Pie
Tamale pie is the perfect Southwestern recipe to make when you don’t have the energy to make an entire batch of tamales but still want to enjoy the ingredients together. Developed in Texas during the first half of the 20th century, tamale pie is made with meat or veggies sautéed with seasonings like chili powder. Layer these delicious ingredients at the bottom of a casserole dish and cover them with a cornmeal crust. Like most casserole dishes, it’s filling and extremely delicious – two key characteristics of classic Texan comfort food.
