8. Santa Maria-Style Barbecue
Barbecue is popular all over the United States, and there are tons of different styles to choose from, each of which uses a different kind of wood, cooking method, and cut of meat. Santa Maria style barbecue first appeared in the mid-19th century and puts the focus on beef. Made with beef tri-tip on a moveable grill over red oak wood coals, this special barbecue is typically served alongside pinquito beans, which are small pinkish beans native to the Santa Maria valley.
