Bedouin Coffee – Middle East
Coffee in the Middle East is less about the coffee itself and more about the elaborate ritual of its preparation. For Bedouins, coffee is a symbol of hospitality and trust, and a host offering coffee signals to the guest that they are welcome.
The coffee ritual starts with green, unroasted beans. The host roasts the beans, then grinds them along with cardamom in a mortar and pestle before brewing the coffee and offering the guest three small cups. It’s considered very bad manners not to have at least one cup.
