13. Sopaipillas
Sopaipillas, made of corn flour dough, are an extremely versatile type of dish that is made all around South and Central America, and even into New Mexico. Cut into squares similar to beignets, the dough is deep-fried, and either stuffed with a savory filling, dipped in sauce, or covered in powdered sugar and served for dessert.
