The first locally-transmitted case of Zika virus in Bolivia was found in January 2016. The woman who was infected had no history of travel, which means that the country’s mosquitos were officially infected and liable to transmit Zika to anyone they bite. Pregnant women especially are being warned to take special care if traveling to Bolivia, as the link between microcephaly and the Zika virus is very strongly indicated.
