Costa Rica has recently been upgraded to a Level 2 threat by the US Center for Disease Control, which is concerning because it is a popular destination for tourists- the wide variety of terrains make it a perfect vacation spot. A total of 159 cases of Zika were reported in the first half of 2016, although none of these presented any of the complications like Guillain-Barré syndrome or microcephaly.
