July 2016 saw the largest increase of Zika virus cases in Mexico, with 120 new cases detected in just one week. They were mostly detected in the southern states of Chiapas, Oaxaca, and Guerrero. This puts the total of Zika cases in Mexico at 786 as of just a few weeks ago.
Travelers to Baja California, which is one of the most popular tourist areas will most likely be safe from the virus, but it is still risky to travel there.
