Interesting Facts about PyeongChang
Long and cold winters
Lucky for those in attendance at PyeongChang, January and February are considered the coldest months of the year in the region. Of course, being Winter Olympic athletes, those conditions should not bother anyone.
The average high for February, the month the Olympics take place in, is just 31.3 Fahrenheit (-0.4 Celsius). The average lows can see temperatures dip to 13.1 Fahrenheit (-10.5 Celsius). Just over 10 days on average receive precipitation during the month, with almost 12 snowy days.
During the winter months, winds from the northeast blow off the East Sea, causing some sever snow storms to take place. A Siberian cold air mass passes through the Korean peninsula, leaving extremely cold conditions on PyeongChang with long and very snowy winters.
