The Woljeongsa
Located in PyeongChang County, Gangwon Province, the Woljeongsa is the head temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. The Silla monk Jajang founded it in 643 just 15 years before his passing.
The Woljeongsa features the Sari-pagoda (relic pagoda), which is a multi-angled stone pagoda standing 15.2 meters/50 feet and is a representative of the multi-stoned pagodas that were popular during the Goryo Period in northern regions of Korea. Visitors to the Woljeongsa can experience Buddhist culture through a Templestay program offered.
It is believed by many that the Sari-pagoda was constructed in the 10th century and is considered a National Treasure.
