Enjoy an alcoholic beverage in public
There is no open container law regarding alcohol usage in South Korea, meaning athletes – if they want – and spectators to the 2018 Winter Olympics can walk around and enjoy a drink or two. Police officers do not run sobriety checks to those in public, and some convenience stores even put out plastic chairs and tables to serve as a modified bar for those purchasing items.
Beer is common, but the locals prefer Soju, which is cheaper and more potent. A glass bottle is less than a U.S. dollar, but has about 20 percent ABV on average. Makgeolli, a milky white rice wine, is also a local specialty.
Despite having no open container laws, South Korea has made gambling, guns, and drugs all illegal and prohibited.
