Building an athletic playing ground
The PyeongChang Mountain cluster will be where the majority of the action goes down, with the Alpensia Resort in Daegwallyeong-myeon taking center-stage as the focus for events.
The PyeongChang Olympic Stadium will host opening and closing ceremonies, with the Alpensia Ski Jumping Centre holding ski jumping, Nordic combined and snowboarding. The biathlon takes place at the Alpensia Biathlon Centre, with cross country sking, sliding and alpine all having their own centre at Alpensia. Two stand-alone venues will be used in the Bokwang Snow Park for freestyle sking and snowboard, and the Jeongseon Alpine Centre for alpine skiing’s downhill, super-G, and combined.
Hockey, curling, speed skating, short track, and figure skating will all head to the Gangneung Olympic Park with what PyeongChang is calling a Coastal Cluster. The women’s hockey tournament is scheduled for the Kwandong Hockey Centre on the grounds of Catholic Kwandong University.
