On Top of the World: The Most Recognized Mountains

Mt. Kilimanjaro
The highest peak in Africa is Mt. Kilimanjaro, which reaches 16,100 feet from base to summit and is located in northern Tanzania. Many people have climbed it over the years, for pleasure and adventure, but also for research. It’s a source of much scientific curiosity because of its rapidly shrinking glacier and ice reserves.
Like many of the peaks on this list, Kilimanjaro is also an active volcano, although it hasn’t erupted in a long time. Kilimanjaro National Park, which surrounds the base of the mountain, is a popular tourist destination full of beautiful wildlife to see and places to explore.
