On Top of the World: The Most Recognized Mountains
| August 21, 2017
Uluru
Uluru, which is known in English as Ayers Rock, is a massive rock formation located in the south of the Northern Territory of Australia. It’s technically classified as an inselberg, not a mountain. Like many of the incredible peaks on this list, it is sacred to the Aboriginal people of the area.
Uluru is the site of many caves where ancient paintings and etchings were found, and is treated with respect not only because of its historical significance, but also because of its place in local religious life. Uluru is gorgeous on its own, but glows fiery red and gold with the sunrise and sunset.
