11. Russia (Heatwave)
What’s the worst that could happen to a country used to extremely cold temperatures? Hot weather. In 2010, Russia was hit by heatwaves causing havoc all over the nation. Over 55,000 people died between July and September with 700 dying per day in Moscow.
A combination of unusually high temperatures, a recent drought and wildfires caused this unthinkable incident. Many people died due to the fire, which was advancing 100 meters per minute, but also because of the smog created by the fires which quadrupled the amount of carbon monoxide in the air.
