1. Evil Spirits – Greece

In Greece, there’s a commonly held belief that the time between Christmas and Epiphany (12 days after Christmas) is when the evil spirits, known as kallikantzaroi, come out to play. They make mischief and will disrupt your home unless they’re repelled daily. The only way to keep them away is to use a small piece of basil tied to a wooden cross to sprinkle holy water in every room of the house. This is usually accomplished by the patriarch or matriarch of the family and has to be repeated every day in order to keep the evil spirits at bay.
