9. Deep-Fried Caterpillars – South Africa
In South Africa, the dish of choice during the Christmas season is a local delicacy – deep-fried caterpillars. The caterpillars, which come from the Emperor Moth, are either black and furry, or large, green and smooth depending on their gestation, are deep-fried and served to family members as a special treat on Christmas Day.
