Cultured Palate: Dishes from Scotland

Cranachan

Scottish people love oats so much that they can’t resist using them in every meal of the day, including dessert! This dish, which is called cranachan (it means “churn” in Scottish Gaelic) is made of whipped cream, berries, whiskey, and oats.

First, the oats are toasted, soaked in whiskey overnight, then mixed with whipped cream and honey to make a delicious topping. Raspberries and the whipped cream mixture are layered in a glass, which is then garnished with some extra toasted oats. It’s a delicious and hearty end to a meal.
