Dongnae Pajeon
Dongnae pajeon is a type of dish called jeon, which is basically a savory pancake made with a variety of ingredients. This specific variant has an amazing backstory – it was created to honor the people of Dongnae, who are seen as folk heroes from the 16th century Imjin War.
The people of Dongnae helped defeat the invading Japanese army by throwing scallions at the incoming forces, so this scallion and seafood pancake was named in their honor. You’ll find this dish made often in the city of Busan, which encompasses the ancient city of Dongnae.
