8. Teriyaki

The Pacific Northwest is incredibly multicultural; waves of immigrants from China, Mexico, and Japan brought their own unique cuisine with them when they first arrived and adapted it to suit the local ingredients of their new homeland. Teriyaki is one of the most popular dishes in Seattle, brought to the city in 1976 by Toshihiro Kasahara. Kasahara used the flavors of Japanese teriyaki to make a sauce all his own – and people went nuts for the delicious chicken marinated in Kasahara’s secret sauce. Now, dozens and dozens of teriyaki restaurants serve loyal customers around Seattle.
